About Me – Rebecca Fitzgerald
I founded K9 Dog Training Academy with the goal of assisting dogs and their families in developing self-assured, trustworthy, and meaningful relationships. I have over 30 years of combined experience in law enforcement, animal welfare, and professional dog training. In the field of dog training, my background is distinct. I have experience working in the field as a project manager for an animal welfare organisation as well as an animal welfare officer. The latter part of my life has been devoted to learning about dog behaviour, positive training techniques, and rehabilitation. I have worked directly with dogs of various breeds and temperaments for the past 15 years, performing behavioural evaluations, creating rehabilitation plans, and assisting families at every stage of their dog’s development.
I believe training should be kind, evidence-based, practical, and tailored to each dog and owner. I have the ethos of ‘Do No Harm’ for every dog (and owner) by building trust and clear communication at the heart of everything I do. My approach is grounded in positive reinforcement, empathy, and real-world experience, supported by extensive qualifications, including a Diploma in Dog Training, Nutrition, and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. I also attend ongoing professional development with leading industry organisations.
